Synopsis

As part of the Royal Albert Hall’s 150th season, Armonico Consort gives a blockbuster performance of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana and Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms with soprano Fflur Wyn and Kathleen Ferrier award-winning baritone Gareth Brynmor John.
Opening with the famous chorus ‘O Fortuna’, Carmina Burana takes 24 medieval poems on topics as diverse as gluttony, gambling and lust, the joys of Spring and the fickleness of fortune.
Written in the 1930s, Orff described Carmina Burana as a ‘scenic cantata’ made up of “secular songs for soloists and choruses, accompanied by instruments and magic images”.
