The club was founded in 1878 and spent most of its early life as an amateur side, turning professional only in the 1930s, which makes what followed all the more improbable.
Two of the four stands carry the names of the men responsible: the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand behind one goal and the Sir Bobby Robson Stand behind the other, for the two managers who took Ipswich to a league title and a European trophy and then went on to manage England.
