The Chinese Grand Prix is a premier Formula One race held at the Shanghai International Circuit. Built in 2003, the 5.451 km circuit is famous for its unique layout that resembles the Chinese character ‘shang’ and features one of the longest back straights in the sport.
The track features 16 corners, notably a tightening “snail” complex at turns 1 and 2, and a massive 1.2 km back straight that leads into a tight hairpin, providing prime overtaking opportunities. The facility itself is also remarkable, as it was built for roughly $450 million on former marshland and rice paddies, and features team buildings designed to evoke Shanghai’s ancient Yuyuan Garden.
